Subject:  Nano-materials application for archaeological conservation

Advisor: Dr. Igor Kreimerman, Prof. Dean Sully

Abstract:  The research focuses on recently developed treatment options for the conservation of archaeological objects, for which there is currently no satisfactory solution. During the project, I aim to explore the potential of nanomaterials for treating archaeological ivories compared to traditional treatment options. The application of nano materials long-term effect will be estimated, and a controlled experiment will be conducted to state the advantages and disadvantages of their use.

Bio:  Hadas holds a B.A. and M.A. degree in archeology and Egyptology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (with honors). The M.A. thesis dealt with re-evaluating the relations between Egypt and Canaan during the Bronze Age in light of the Egyptian inscriptions discovered in Israel. Since 2015 she has worked in the Institute of Archeology conservation laboratory at the Hebrew University; she completed her MSc in Conservation for Archaeology and Museums at University College London (with distinction) in 2021. As part of her Ph.D., she researches the potential of using nanomaterials on ivories from excavations in Israel. Hadas's Ph.D. work is supervised by Dr. Igor Kramerman (Hebrew University of Jerusalem) and Prof. Dean Sully (University College London).
