Subject: A Diachronic Exploration of Tonal and Harmonic Development in 18th and 19th Century Music: A Statistical Analysis of Chord Progressions and Tonal Shifts Over Time.
Supervisor: Prof. Yoel Greenberg.
Abstract: This research proposes a diachronic exploration of the development of tonality in 18th and 19th century music, focusing on statistical analysis of chord progressions and harmonic changes. Inspired by Dr. Yoel Greenberg's work on the evolution of the sonata form, the study aims to uncover evolutionary patterns in tonal and harmonic structures, offering a deeper understanding of musical transformations during this period. The research contributes to the fields of music theory and music history, with potential pedagogical implications for teaching music theory from a historical perspective.
