Supervisors: Michal Biran; Julia Rubanovich
Abstarct: The research aims to look at the production of Persian panegyric odes during the Ilkhanid period, investigating the production of panegyrics from both a literary and historical perspective. The goal of such research will be enquiring variations in the themes, structure and functions of Persian panegyrics under the Mongol domination, as well as illustrating how dynamics of patronage of poets worked in a turbulent moment of Persian history.
Bio: I am an Italian Phd student in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies. I completed my BA at the University of Bologna, where I have studied oriental languages (Arabic and Persian). After a sabbatical year spent studying Arabic and Persian in Iran and Morocco, I went to London where I obtained an MA in Near and Middle Eastern Studies. It was during my master that I started studying Mongol history and decided to continue my academic career in this field. My current research project will focus on the production of Persian panegyric poems during the Ilkhanid period. My aim is to approach my research from both a literary and historical perspective. To do this, I will investigate variations in the themes and structure of panegyrics during the Mongol domination of Iran and enquire the dynamics of patronage of poets.
