Subject: Archaeology of Mobility and Rivers in Ancient China and their Effects on Processes of Cultural Change.
Supervisor: Prof. Gideon Shelach-Lavi, Prof. Uri Davidovich
Abstract: My research focuses on the analysis of archaeological remains that will allow to delineate the ways in which different cultural groups moved around the Chinese landscape amidst the height of the formation processes of the empire, from the Warring States period to the Han Dynasty. I will do so while emphasizing the crucial role rivers, riverine mobility and transportation, had as an important space for multi-cultural integration processes. In my research I wish to address the methodological difficulties of the archaeological research of rivers, which stem from their dynamic and sometimes violent nature, that often prevents the preservation of archaeological remains.
