Subject: Register variation in Ruruuli-Lunyala (Bantu).

Supervisor: Dr. Alena Witzlack-Makarevich and Dr. Aynat Rubinstein.

Abstract: In my dissertation, I examine linguistic variation across the registers of Ruruuli-Lunyala, an under-described Bantu language. I am studying how the language produced by the speakers differs depending on the specifics of the communicative situation. I aim to discover the dimensions of register variation in the language as well as to uncover how register variation interacts with specific linguistic phenomena, such as linguistic complexity, verbal mood, and reported speech.
