Sociology and Anthropology

Michal Frenkel is a full professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and head of the Lafer Center for Women and Gender Studies. Alongside her work at the Hebrew University, she has been a visiting lecturer and researcher at numerous universities, including Harvard, Brandeis, Smith, and Sciences Po in Paris.

Her research focuses on the intersectionality of gender with religion, age, ethnicity, and class within and around work organizations. She also studies issues related to the integration of work and family across different life stages, particularly in families from diverse social groups. Her work has been published in leading academic journals.

Currently, she is working on a book that explores the intersection of gender and religion in the world of work, based on extensive research on Haredi (ultra-Orthodox Jewish) women in Israel's labor market. In parallel, her current research examines the intersection of gender and age in academia, focusing on how women and men experience midlife—a period when their careers are well-established and family commitments are shifting—as a significant phase in academic life.

As part of the research group at Scholion, she aims to focus on gender differences in the experience and meaning of parenthood in the workplace across various life stages.
