Subject: Studies on the Lexicogrpahy of Maat in the Old Kingdom.
Advisor: Dr. Racheli Shlomi-Chen.
Abstract: The study explores how political instability at the end of the Egyptian Old Kingdom (ca. 2686-2160 BCE) influenced the conception of the goddess Maat, the deification of order, justice, and truth. Previous scholarship has revealed that this period – and especially the second half of the Fifth Dynasty – was one of great political turmoil, partly due to the lack of legitimization felt by the rulers of this dynasty. My proposed study aims to examine fundamental differences between the royal conception of Maat and the private one, as reflected in both phraseology and content.
