Past and Past Perfect Research Group Conference

Date:
Tue, 14/03/2023 to Thu, 16/03/2023
Past and Past Perfect
Location:
Mandel Building (Room 530), The Israeli Museum and Valley of the Cross
Lecturer:
Past and Past Perfect Research Group

The Conference will be Held in Hebrew

How did past societies perceive their own histories? In what ways did leaders use or abuse history to gain and preserve power? How does social and personal memory of past societies change over time? As is well known, our history shapes our present, and the present shapes the past, but how did these processes work in earlier societies? This year's Mandel Scholion’s conference asks these and other questions – from medieval Anatolia to 1950s Germany, between Biblical and Classical literatures, as well as material culture and art. Alongside the lectures there will be tours at the Israel Museum storerooms, the nearby Valley of the Cross and the Mount Scopus campus (there are limited places, so please pre-register).

Opening talk – Prof. Yonatan Goshen-Gottstein (School of Psychological Sciences, TAU): What Does a Memory Researcher Want You to Know About Memory Forming and Collective Memory?

Please note that for participation in the tours pre-registration by email - scholion@savion.huji.ac.il or via the link here.
